What is the best way to store a kayak during the winter?
I know the preferred is indoor storage than outdoor for UV protection. Do you hang your kayak or on a sawhorse or flat surface in the garage?
There are a few different ways to store a kayak, depending on the type of kayak you have and the space you have available. If you have an inflatable kayak, you can deflate it and store it in a closet or under a bed. If you have a hardshell kayak, you can either hang it up or store it on a flat surface.
If you have space to hang your kayak, one option is to use a kayak storage rack. These racks typically cost around $50 and can hold up to two kayaks. Another option is to use a sawhorse. You can make your own sawhorse for about $10 using two pieces of lumber and some screws. If you don’t have space to hang your kayak or don’t want to invest in a storage rack, you can store it on a flat surface, such as in your garage. Just make sure to put something under it to protect the hull from scratches.
For the last four years, I’ve done things this way. There are 4 eye hooks and two sets of straps on both ends – one that is completely wrapped around the kayak and one that just reaches to the handles. Without the pulleys, getting up and down isn’t too hard, but each way it’s a pain in the butt.
