One of my favorite features of a Jeep Wrangler is the open-air driving experience you can get when you fold the soft top back. So whether you're looking to replace a worn-out top, update your Jeep with a newer or different style soft top or maybe your Jeep never even had a soft top before there are plenty of options available when it comes time to put a new top on your Jeep Wrangler. Now we can basically break down soft tops into two categories: factory style soft tops and frameless soft tops.

Factory Style Soft Tops

Let's start by looking at factory style soft tops. Now you'll find this basic type of soft top on any wrangler that came from the factory with a soft top installed. Now there's been quite a few different versions of this top over the years some with fold-back sunroof features others without but they all basically work on the same principle in that they use internal bow assemblies to support the soft top material and allow you to fold back your soft top. Now if you're looking to replace a worn top on your Jeep you can simply purchase the replacement fabric and windows and reuse the factory bow assembly and hardware that's already installed on your Jeep. Now if you're looking to install soft top on your Jeep for the first time or maybe your Jeeps original bow assemblies are broken or worn out too, there are complete soft-top kits available that include all the fabric windows as well as bow assemblies and hardware that you'll need to get your new soft top installed.

Frameless Style Soft Tops

Another great option available when you're looking at soft tops are frameless style soft tops. Now the biggest difference in a frameless top versus a factory style top is that there are no internal bow assemblies used to support a frameless top. How To Operate Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited Soft Top by Bestop

Let's find out how to raise the Jeep Wrangler's Soft Top. When it’s time to raise the soft top, first make sure there’s another adult on-hand to assist. From the fully lowered position, remove the fastener straps. Then, locate the lock levers on the driver- and passenger-side lift assist mechanisms. Pushing down on each side of the soft top, slide the lock levers to the “unlocked” position. Then, push the number 5 bow up and forward along the guide track until it locks into the Sunrider position. You should hear a click. Now, using the side link, lift and push the soft top toward the front of the vehicle until it reaches the closed position. From inside the vehicle, pull the header latch handle down until the hook engages its receiver. To lock the latch, pull the handle back up and squeeze the hook into place. Then, lock the other latch as well. To install the quarter window, start at the rear of the vehicle. Keep the window level as you guide the top onto the retainer and slide it forward. Do the same on the other side. Next, place the top of the quarter window pillar into the top cover and insert the bottom tab into the clip. Next, engage the plastic retainers on the front of the window, then engage the retainers along the bottom. Do the same to the other side. To prevent damage, make sure you fully engage the front window retainers before driving again. Now, find the hook-and-loop fastener on the upper front corner of each quarter window and press down firmly to secure it. To reinstall the rear window, first, keep the window level as you guide it into the retainer from left to right. Then, slide the tailgate bar from left to right into the retainers at the bottom of the window. Rotate the swing gate bar into the left- and right-side retainers. Next, engage the plastic retainers, along the passenger-side of the rear window, to the quarter window pillar. Do the same on the driver’s side. How To Raise the Jeep Wrangler's Soft Top

One of the most exciting new features on new Jeep Wrangler is the new easy to operate soft top. Here's how it works. First, release the two overhead latches. Then push up next we're going to fold the top partially back. This is called the Sun Rider position. The Wrangler can be driven with the Sun Rider open, with their brew windows in or with them out. To remove the windows start with the rear panel. Remove the lower tailgate bar retainer with a gentle tug. Then remove the rear window side vertical retainers. Start at the bottom of the small pole and smoothly work your way up to the top. Do this on both sides of the vehicle. Next, pull the tailgate bar towards you to release all remaining tension in the panel. The rear window panel will now slide easily out. For the side window panel begin at the rear corner of the vehicle. Give the bottom corner of this panel a gentle outward push. Pull the belt line out beginning at the rear and working your way forward. Now that the rear and lower connections are out gently remove the vertical retainer from the door surround. Now slide the entire window panel out toward the rear. Do the same on the other side of the vehicle as well. To completely fold the top down all the windows need to be removed. Now grab the rear latch and release it and the entire top folds neatly into the cargo area. The last step is to lock the top in place with these switches on both sides. From this point, it's easy to remove the soft top and install the factory hardtop. Just unbolt the soft top assembly, remove it from the vehicle, also remove the door surrounds and now you're ready to install the hardtop. Of course first up we have to start with the factory soft top. Now this thing is amazing for three really big reasons. First of — a Sunrider feature is much larger than your regular Sunrider and opening it is way easier because it has what you call lift assist. So it works very similarly to your normal Sunrider, you have your two tabs and you don't worry about this thing collapsing on top of you. You got it halfway open and then the lift assist makes it real easy to pop it all the way back. And what I mean larger, I really mean larger, it encompasses the rear seat so if you have kids or friends this makes it really awesome for them to be able to see this guy just like the guys in the front seat. And then on top of that the whole thing is retractable, so if that's not enough sunlight we can move the whole thing down. First off we got to remove the rear window which is a pop right there, you just work your way, all the way around. And then it literally just slides out. Now once you have that out of the way. This part is the easiest so this also has a glide track which means this is going to come down with literally the touch of one hand. Fully retractable a larger Sunrider and it has all the assist features to make sure that someone not big size can do it all by themselves. And then of course there's one of my personal favorites the Sunrider for hardtop, which is amazing for a plethora of reasons. First and foremost this is a Four Seasons top which means that it's good not just for the summer in the spring but also for the winter and fall as well. And you don't have to worry about where you're gonna store those pesky freedom panels every time you want sunlight shining on your beautiful face. And then there's the operation. This thing is so easy it literally takes seconds. You have two clips, one-handed and you've got as much sunlight and freedom as you could possibly asked for. And then of course there's the one question — how's the wind noise. And I can tell you from personal experience that the wind noise is no worse than it was with the freedom panels.
